Sometimes we hit a low point, and it’s difficult to keep going unless we can can find some really good motivation. We need to aim for a target, but we have to have a good reason for wanting to hit it if we want to stand a hope in Hell of getting there, of making it through the tough times.
I have many reasons for losing weight. I want to be able to shop in “normal” clothing shops instead of having to head for the plus size section. I want to be able to pull a size 12 off the rails and be confident that it’ll fit and that I’ll look good in it. I want to have confidence that I look good when I get up and sing in front of people.
They’re all good reasons, but they’re not my main reasons. There are other, more pressing reasons for me to shed my excess weight and get healthy. Two of them in fact. These are my reasons:
These are my beautiful sons. My eldest is almost 7 years old, and my youngest is almost 2 years old. They are my main reason for embarking on this journey, and here’s why:
- I want to be able to run around and be energetic with my kids, and not feel knackered after a few hopeless minutes. I want to take them on long hikes and bike rides, and splash in the sea, and still have energy to spare!
- I want them to be able to walk by my side with pride, instead of being embarrassed by the fatty who drops them off at school in the morning.
- I want to make sure that I’m as healthy as possible, to reduce the chances of leaving them motherless at an early age due to illnesses that could be prevented if I were a healthy weight.
- Most of all, I want to set the best example I can, because if I can instill in them a healthy attitude towards being active, and also teach them to make healthy food choices, it will set them up for a healthier lifestyle which they will in turn pass on to their children.
Whenever I falter, I remind myself why I’m doing this every time I look at their little faces. I will keep going, and I will be stronger, healthier and happier bother because of them and for them.
